Dolphin Interconnect Solutions Dolphin Announces an Open Sourced High Performance Interconnect Driver for Linux Based Systems

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire/ - Dolphin Interconnect Solutions , a developer and manufacturer of high speed and low latency interconnect cards, for UNIX, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and NetWare servers, has introduced an open sourced Linux driver for its high performance interconnect cards. Dolphin's IEEE 1596-1992 standard-based Scaleable Coherent Interface (SCI) cards offer users high-performance interconnect solutions for clustering SUN and Intel based workstations, including SMP systems. SCI cards are also used in connecting clusters of servers for parallel processing, distributed database and high-availability applications.

In order to satisfy a growing demand from existing customers and prospects, Dolphin is introducing an open sourced Linux software driver for its range of high performance SCI cards. Dolphin's software drivers consist of two modules the first is the Interconnect Resource Manager (IRM) and the second is the Shared-Memory Driver and Library API (SISCI). The IRM driver provides a kernel programming interface to manage the clustering hardware resources. The SISCI (Shared-Memory driver and Library) API enables customer applications to bypass the heavy networking protocol overhead. SISCI also provides remote memory access, DMA and bi-directional interrupt capabilities. The IRM and SISCI drivers are written as kernel modules that can be dynamically installed and uninstalled. Dolphin SCI technology enables various cluster topologies, including ring, star, or 2D-Mesh. Dolphin supported hardware includes the D320 64 bit, 33 MHz PCI -SCI Adapter Card, D323 64 bit, 33 MHz PMC-SCI adapter card and the D515 6-port expandable modular switch. Pricing for the cards begin at $980 and are available immediately.
Centrax Centrax Corporation's TrainingBYTE.com provides free overview on "Preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome"

Chicago, Ill - March 23, 2000 - Centrax Corporation, a leading developer of innovative online learning solutions, has launched its TrainingBYTE.com site upon the release of a TrainingBYTE entitled "Preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome."

The "Preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" program is a brief, animated demonstration that provides information as well as special exercises regarding carpal tunnel syndrome prevention. This program exhibits the capabilities of Centrax Corporation's TrainingBYTE products and services and can be downloaded or viewed directly. Organizations such as the American Medical Association, Proctor and Gamble, American Express and Lucent Technologies are utilizing TrainingBYTEs for various online training and communication projects. Edward Prentice III, senior technology consultant, said many existing clients use TrainingBYTEs for its various features.

Editor's note:- this is a very serious subject for all of us. I've been using a keyboard for over 20 years, and have, without realising it, been doing some of these exercises. My younger sister was not so lucky, and had to give up her programming job due to serious repetitive strain injury. I recommend you look at the exercises - here's the link again.
Express Logic Express Logic Provides a New Choice for (real-time) pSOS+® Users

San Diego, Ca., March 20th, 2000 - Express Logic announced today the availability of their pSOS+ Evacuation Kit (PEK)™. This new product offers former Integrated Systems customers that are using pSOS+ an exciting new option for the future. Instead of having WindRiver's Tornado® technology forced upon them, pSOS+ customers can now easily migrate their existing application to the advanced ThreadX/MULTI 2000 solution from Express Logic and Green Hills Software.

The pSOS Evacuation Kit™ is designed to help pSOS customers that cannot migrate their application to VxWorks® due to royalties, cost, size, or performance reasons. The kit defines basic pSOS services, with some limitations, and utilizes ThreadX primitives underneath. The new pSOS compatibility layer performs faster than the original pSOS code, since the PEK utilizes internal ThreadX primitives and bypasses basic ThreadX error checking. However, the application may achieve even greater performance and size benefits if a complete conversion to ThreadX is performed.

MULTI 2000 and ThreadX are available for most major 32-bit and 64-bit RISC and CISC CPUs, as well as a number of popular DSPs, including all derivatives of IBM and Motorola PowerPC, ARM, Thumb, StrongARM, MIPS, Hitachi SH, NEC V8xx, Motorola 68000, ColdFire, Intel 386/486/Pentium, Oak Technology's Micro-SPARC, SPARClite, M-Core, TriCore, and Hitachi's SH-DSP.
HostPro HostPro, a Micron Electronics Company, and Sun Microsystems Join Forces in Startup Accelerator Program

Nampa, Idaho, March 21, 2000 - Micron Electronics, today announced its Internet and Web hosting subsidiary, HostPro, has teamed with Sun Microsystems, Inc. to offer dot-com startups immediate access at minimal cost to a professionally managed development and testing environment that includes hardware, software, bandwidth, and services. As a member of the Sun Startup™ Accelerator Program, HostPro will help dot-com startups develop and deploy their Web sites and e-business applications.

As a part of the Sun Startup Accelerator Program, qualified startups will gain access to an all-in-one development environment based on Sun's technology platform. They also can select from HostPro's award-winning Web hosting and e-commerce infrastructure and solutions.

Future dot-coms need access to powerful and reliable servers, software development tools, ample storage, and a broad range of support services for quick development. Service Providers also have requirements for service delivery—especially the need to keep equipment footprint to a minimum. The Startup Accelerator development environment is designed to meet these needs. This environment, which is for exclusive use by the startup for a six-month period, comprises:

Lineo Lineo & Coresoft Provide Linux Support for Telephony

LINDON, UTAH - March 20, 2000 - Lineo, Inc, the leading developer of embedded Linux® system software™, today announced an agreement with Coresoft Technologies to deliver a Linux-based computer telephony solution. Embedded CenterPoint® will use Embedix™ Linux, Lineo's embedded Linux-based operating system, to provide ISVs and application developers a software engine for embedded Linux telephony products. This joint effort will provide the OEM market with critical telephony enabled solutions sought by developers building devices across a wide spectrum, from the smallest home automation devices all the way to large-scale Application Service Provider solutions.

"Telephony products running on an embedded Linux core offer device manufacturers the chance to take greater advantage of the Internet because of the inherent nature of Linux as an operating system," said Bryan Sparks, CEO of Lineo, Inc. "Coresoft has demonstrated a solid ability to deliver solutions for the telephony market and Lineo looks forward to developing this Linux-based telephony solution with them."

"As the market increasingly utilizes embedded Linux, we want to provide the tools to telephony-enable each product or solution based on the specific needs of each one," said Scott Sorensen, president of Coresoft. "Lineo Embedix Linux is the perfect OS for adding telephony services and functionality to any number of solutions and products."

Embedded CenterPoint will be available through the Lineo Embedix ISV program. Coresoft and Lineo, sister companies under the Canopy Group, are beginning development on this solution immediately, and expect to begin shipping the product next quarter.

SPARC Product Directory

Web directory publisher ACSL celebrates 1000 binary (8) years of publishing the #1 independent Sun Microsystems compatible hardware buyer's guide.

Looking ahead: ACSL predicts that rackmount SPARC systems will become the volume driver replacing desktop workstations and that Solaris will lose substantial market share to Linux and other "free" Unix type operating systems within a rapidly growing independent SPARC systems installed base.

Baughurst, UK - March 20, 2000 - ACSL, publisher of the SPARC Product Directory(sm), is pleased this week to celebrate 8 (eight) years of publishing their buyer's guide to Sun Microsystems compatible systems and suppliers. "That's 1000 years in binary, and it sure feels like a long time, but the market has never been more exciting than it is today" said Zsolt Kerekes, editor and publisher.

"I got the first orders for the book, which was then called the SBus Product Directory at the end of March 1992. At that time it listed Sun bus compatible add-in cards and complete systems from 75 manufacturers in 140 pages. Noone could have imagined at that time how successful the SPARC systems market would become. The directory switched over to a web format in 1996/97, after more than 22 paper editions. I still get people asking if they can get the information in a book, but you'd have to be an Olympic athlete to lift it, and it would soon go out of date, because I add links to a handful of new SPARC systems resellers or oem's every single day, as well as updating current entries and news"

"The web dramatically transformed this publication from being a low volume subscriber funded directory mainly used by very large end-users and vendor support staff, into a high volume advertiser funded web site which is used by hundreds of thousands of buyers. I'd like to thank all my readers, and all my customers for making this possible."
