New on Site Training Option and Free Sun SPARC Workstation
CENTREVILLE, Va., Sept. 6 - MarZ Consulting Inc. is changing the way IT organizations calculate their training budgets. The independent training firm, which specializes in Sun Solaris Administration training and consulting, now offers a mobile training environment that will allow companies to receive the services they require with minimal cost and employee inconvenience. The MarZ mobile training team travels to firms around the country providing on site Sun Solaris UNIX Administration courses at client sites.
``Absolute insanity!'' remarks Steve Maher, President and founder of MarZ Consulting. ``If you need to get 4 to 20 people trained as Unix administrators, it is going to cost at least $3000 per five day course per student. The travel alone including airfare, lodging, food and car rental is going to run $1000 per trainee! Why pay an extra eight to fifteen thousand dollars for travel? That is our market. We come to the customer site and conduct the hands on Sun Solaris UNIX Administration training in any available training room or conference room.''
The training is, in fact, hands on. MarZ trainers still provide the same depth of learning and hands on experience by bringing Sun Sparc 5, 10 or 20 workstations for every student, as well as a Sun Enterprise 250 server. The switches and hubs are also provided to complete the fully networked training environment.
``If there's a question about the need for this kind of service,'' said Maher, ``consider this. There are thousands of open positions for UNIX related positions in the US alone. Monsterboard.com errors out with more than 1,000 jobs and Dice.com with more than 5000! The reason for this is the cost of getting employees up to speed without an extra influx of venture capital.'' After the course, each student receives a free Sun Sparc 2 workstation to keep for continued practice.
``Students lose newly acquired knowledge if they don't use the technology on a daily basis. Now they can train hands on during the course and have a Sun workstation to continue to hone their skills on their own'' says Maher. Editor's note:- for the benefit of our younger readers I looked up the SPARCstation 2 spec in an old edition of this directory. 28.5 MIPS, 4.2 MFLOPS, 32M RAM expandable to 64M, 424M winchester. The SS 2 was launched in 1990. You wouldn't want to use it today as an applications machine, but it'll be fine for sys admin or writing software.
