from SPARC History Soon after the launch of Sun's SPARCstation in 1989, Antares Microsystems was founded by one of the co-designers to manufacture SBus compatible add in cards. On December 6, 1989, Antares announced the industry's first 3rd party SBus cards. These were:- the 10Base-2 Ethernet Controller, the SCSI-SNS Host Adapter, the Parallel Port, and the 8-Channel Serial Controller. Antares products were listed in every edition of the SBus Product Directory, starting in 1992. In 1996, Antares had a full page color ad on the front cover of the renamed SPARC Product Directory, and also started advertising on this web site. The banner ad on the right, is one of Antares' earliest banner ads in the SPD, from 1999. See also:- Pre Millenium SPARC Banner Ads |
