DoveBid

DoveBid was founded in 1937. GoIndustry, with its recent acquisition of DoveBid, becomes the global market leader in the valuation and sale of surplus industrial machinery and equipment. The Company combines traditional asset sales experience with innovative eCommerce technology and advanced direct marketing to service the needs of corporations, insolvency practitioners, dealers and asset based lenders around the world.

  • editor's comments:- the first time I heard of DoveBid was when I ran a press release about an auction of servers and equipment just 3 days after 9/11. (After days of being dazed and watching tv news - about those horrific events - going back to work was a way of trying to think about something else.)

In those days (in 2001 - before 9/11) recycling stuff from failed dotcom companies was a very good business.

The economy, now, in mid September 2008 has all the hallmarks of starting another recession. That means users have to be more careful - because they've got less money - and they had to work harder to get it.

Due to an oversight - I didn't include server recycling auctions in my article Green Storage - Trends and Predictions . But I should have done - because it's good for the environment as well as being good for your wallet.

If you're selling systems which you've used - take a look at the articles listed on the disk sanitizers page an make sure that the people you work with take the proper steps to ensure the security of any data on the attached storage media.

Are MLC SSDs Safe in Enterprise Apps?
This is a follow up article to the popular SSD Myths and Legends which, a year earlier demolished the myth that flash memory wear-out (a comfort blanket beloved by many RAM SSD makers) precluded the use of flash in heavy duty datacenters.

This new article looks at the risks posed by MLC Nand Flash SSDs which have recently hatched from their breeeding ground as chip modules in cellphones and morphed into hard disk form factors.
